Fig and Twigs Granola

Fig and Twigs Granola…

One taste and you will understand why I have been making this granola for over 30 years, needless to say it is one of our favorite family recipes! I am thrilled to share it with you and hope you will enjoy it as much as we do…

Ingredients…

8 cups Old- Fashioned oats

2 cup shredded unsweetened coconut

1 cup sesame seeds

2 cups unsalted sunflower seeds

2 cups chopped hazelnuts

2 cups chopped almonds

1 cup flax seeds

1 Tablespoon cinnamon

1 cup honey

1 cup canola oil

2 cups diced dried apricots

2 cups diced unsweetened dried cranberries

1 cup diced dried figs

Directions…

  1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees
  2. Combine oats, coconut, sesame, flax seeds, cinnamon and chopped nuts in a large heatproof bowl.
  3. In a medium sauce pan, warm the oil and honey until bubbly.
  4. Pour warm honey and oil mixture over the oats and nuts. Stir well to coat all of the ingredients.
  5. Spread the mixture onto Silpat lined or no-stick cookie sheets. I use 4 cookie sheets for this.
  6. Bake, stirring frequently, for about 25 minutes or until light golden brown.
  7. Remove from the oven and allow mixture to cool.
  8. Once cool, place all of this mixture into a large bowl. Add the diced dried fruit, stir well to combine.
  9. Store in an airtight container. This also freezes well for up to 6 months!

I usually double or triple this recipe, our kids love to stop by and grab a batch when they know it’s granola baking day! It’s also always nice to have extra on hand for little hostess gifts. I fill clear cello bags and tie them up with a ribbon and add a fresh flower from the garden…a simple little gift and always appreciated…

Enjoy!!

Thanks for stopping by…
