Hi from my Flower Porch…

Welcome and thanks for stopping by!

I look forward to sharing my love of a flower filled life…a little bit of everything from trips to the Flower Market, Garden Parties, Favorite Recipes, Flea Market Adventures and my Colorful Home…

My tiny Flower Porch off of our kitchen is probably my very favorite spot in our home… You will find me here most mornings with a double latte, newspaper in hand and my dog Daisy Rhubarb by my side. Nothing fancy, just cozy, quiet and welcoming! Early morning porch sitting before the day begins…

I usually keep my buckets of blooms out here on the porch, they stay nice and cool under the awning and the tall trees in our side garden add extra shade especially during the warm summer months.

Today I have Lilac blooms…

Once a month on the third Sunday I venture out early to shop at the Long Beach Flea Market for one of a kind treasures. This week one of my favorite vendors, a darling lady originally from France, had buckets upon buckets of fresh Lilac branches for sale. She grows Lilac bushes in her garden at the base of our local mountains, due to all of the wonderful winter rain storms her Lilacs doubled in size from last year! When I asked how much they cost she told me to just pick out what I wanted and we would agree on a price…my kind of shopping! I came home with enough branches to fill our home and even more to share with family and friends. I just adore the deep, mysterious scent of Spring wafting through our home, truly magical!

If you enjoy having fresh Lilac branches in your home as much as I do here are a few tips to help your blooms last a long time…

  1. If cutting branches from your own bush be sure to use sharp pruning scissors. Cut them in the morning or evening, the mid day sun often wilts them a bit. If you have purchased branches of Lilacs simply trim the ends of the woody stems when you bring them home.
  2. As soon as you have cut them, place the stems into Luke warm water that has a flower preservative in it. I prefer “FloraLife” Flower food, just follow the directions on the package. It is inexpensive and sure helps your blooms last a long time.
  3. Remove most of the foliage, the nutrients from the water will go to the leaves rather than the buds and blossoms.
  4. Recut the stems, under water, after a few days. This will help the blossoms last even longer!

The Flower Porch has an old hutch, the paint is peeling and the latch is missing so I keep it closed with a twig. It’s old and perfectly worn in…
