In The Garden…

In The Garden…Pondering

One of the reasons why I adore gardening as much as I do is because it gives me a chance to unwind, clear my mind and simply ponder. We recently had a rather warm spell of weather for this time of the year. Usually in May our days tend to be chilly and gray! With this burst of warmth the last of my Ranunculus decided to bloom all at once! I had planted them late in the season, in pots in our side garden. They are rather out of view there so I decided to snip them…to enjoy inside…

These colorful blooms remind me of my mom, she loved bright bold splashes of color in her garden and in her home. My love of gardening comes from her…some of my fondest childhood memories of my mom are of her tending to her hundreds of potted plants, blooming throughout the year!

As I snipped and watered the side garden I thought out the joys of having a blooming garden and how much fun it is to be able to share simple posey bouquets from my little garden with neighbors and friends. Tiny blooms tied up with ribbons…to give away “just because”.

With the last of the Ranunculus snipped for the season I am now deciding what to plant next, what colors to highlight, etc…Then I got to thinking again about how my mom used to plan her garden around events. In the summer she always filled her garden with beautiful bold summer tones to match their summer dinner parties …oranges, yellows, pinks, purples, blues and always plenty of greens! Wonderful terra-cotta pots of blooms filled our yard, with bits of color in everywhere.

With all of this reminiscing going on in my mind it made me think about the joys of entertaining in the garden…about planning something “just because”…about celebrating friendship…about creating a special garden themed menu…about how magical it is to do something for others…

The last of the Ranunculus are now inside …but my mind is still outside in the garden pondering and planning, a Garden Party…

I hope you have a wonderful day, and thanks so much for stopping by…
